error on page in hotmail, yahoo mail etc

when opening hotmail or yahoo mail, many of the buttons
are missing, eg 'send' is replaced with gibber. other
buttons refuse to work. i get the 'error on page' message
when i click on 'delete' for example. tried updating to
ie6, but no love. cant find a solution on micro's pages
either.
any help appreciated.
