I have a recently acquired Dell Inspiron 8600 running
Windows XP and Outlook 2003. When trying to send large
attachments (500k +) from Outlook (via AT&T Worldnet), I
get an SMTP server timeout error 0x8004210B. Have
contacted AT&T and they suggested increasing the timeout
time in Outlook. Have done that and still get this
error. Any other solutions?

I don't know of any. I've seen this problem in the newsgroups and we're
trying to reproduce it in-house.

They are different. Your error codes indicate that Outlook wasn't able to
connect to the servers. This can have many causes, some of which are
anti-virus or firewall software on your computer. Other culprits can be
routers or firewalls elsewhere on the network that you're using blocking the
connection (I've had this happen to me on occasion).

JF,

I do not have a specifc answere but I have received similar error messages
(0x80042108 & 0x80042109). If the last character in your error message is
an "8" and not a "B" we have identical error messages. I also run XP &
Office 03. There are articles addressing these error messages in the
Microsolft Knowledge Base. Go the MS support site and see if they help you.
One issue that comes up is the apparent problems with running
Norton/Symantec products and outlook/outlook express, if you can believe
that. I have been struggling with this problem for a couple months now.
Sometimes my email works and sometimes I get these error messages.
