Error msg when loading desk top

Hello,

Can someone tell me how to correct the following error
when I first sign in and my desktop loads. I get the
following error
"NT on-access scanner service encountered a problem and
needed to close"

Update or replace your McAfee anti-virus software. Very old versions
give this error all the time on XP. If a newer version of McAfee does
this, try reinstalling it.
