I just downloaded the free beta spyware and on start up
I receive the following 5 error messages: hpqcmon.exe-
the application has failed to start because MFC42.DLL was
not found. Re-installing the application may fix this
problem; hptkreg.exe-same; sgtray.exe-same;
qdagent2002.exe-same; and hpthreg.exe-same. What do I do
to get rid of these messages and will I start having
problems with my system?

Did you actually run a scan and remove some spyware with the product, after
installing it?

Here's my thought about a quick fix for this one:

On my system, I have several copies of mfc42.dll, among them:

\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

and

\windows\system32

I would suggest that you see whether you also have an mfc42.dll in the
ServicePackFiles\i386 folder, and, if you find you do NOT have one in the
\windows\system32 folder, copy the file from \ServicePackFiles\386 to
\System32.

Let's see if that resolves these boot up error messages.

The hp... entries are related to Hewlett-Packard products.

hpqcmon.exe => HP Digital Imaging - likely related to a
scanner or digital camera driver
hptkreg.exe => HP toolkit - same as above
hpthreg.exe => could not find but likely a part of some
HP product you are using

sgtray.exe => VERITAS StorageGuard Tray Application -
likely some application that was included with your system

.
...Windows uses a "PATH STATEMENT". Open
start/programs/accessories/command prompt. Type path=
and write down the path of all folders Windows is looking
at. Copy MFC42.DLL to all locations. Restart.
