Recently I have been getting a regular error message about every 10 minutes.
It shows up as a small window with no explanation other than "An Unknown
Error Has Occurred". I can get rid of it by clicking OK but then it comes
back again. I tried Restore for the day before it started but it's still
here. Any ideas?

Not much to go on is it?

Can you think of any changes that you made right before the error appeared?
New programs or plugin installed? Any new hardware? An odd lockup in a
program? A bad shutdown?

Are you always using the same program when the error appears?
Does Event Viewer offer any additional information about the error? Or
errors that appear right about the same time the problem started occurring?
Is there a program name in the title bar of the error message?
Does the error appear in Safe Mode too?

Has the system been checked with an up to date antivirus program?
Scanned for parasites with an up to date version of AdAware or similar
software?

The only thing I can recall doing is uninstalling a game that I didn't care
for. The error message appears at irregular times no matter what I am
doing. It does not have a program name in the title bar. The title bar just
says Error, there is a large red X and then the message "an unknown error
has occured." I checked Event Viewer and there were two. First one says
"The server did not register with DCOM within the required timeout."
Second one says "The At1 job command failed to start due to the following
error: The system cannot find the file specified." I have run Norton AV,
Ad-Aware, and Spybot without seeing anything suspicious. I am wondering,
because of the second error message in Event Viewer, if possibly my computer
is trying to open a file that has been removed or corrupted for some reason.

Ah, here's your thread!

If you have a system restore point that predates the installation of the
game, I would try that in addition to the uninstalling you've already done.

I don't think the problems in event viewer are related (unless the
date/time stamps are corresponding with the appearance of the error
messages) but... Check in Task Scheduler for any jobs that do not look
familiar or that are no longer relevant anyhow. Also, take a look at the
contents of this file: c:\windows\schedlgu.txt. It's possible that this log
will make a mention of what file is related to the "At1 job"

Checking the file you suggested I found that At1 was a scheduled defrag.
That "might" be a batch file I set up a few days ago, but I did not notice
that I spelled it defragE. I deleted the task temporarily to see if that is
the problem. If that does the trick I'll spell it right the next time.
Thanks for all the suggestions..

You're welcome! Let us know how things go.

Deleting the At1 job did the trick. Thanks again. I'd have never thought to
look at Task Scheduler.

You're most welcome. Am glad to hear that you have this sorted finally.
