Hi, three or four times or so every hour my mail doesn't check, and I get the
error message below. This only started when I swapped to a new PC and started
using Vista and Windows Mail instead of XP and Outlook Express. The only way
to rectift it seems to be to shut down Windows Mail and the start it up
again. Please help, as this is doing my head in!
Thanks in advance.

An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x800C0148

The "Port: 0" part of the error message tells me your antivirus is interfering
with Windows Mail. Which antivirus are you running? Some of them will cause
problems with Windows Mail over time.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm using AVG 8.5 - the full "paid for" version,
not the free one. I'd guess that I'm not the only person using this along
with Windows Mail, so it seems strange that AVG haven't released a fix or a
patch for it yet - presumably they must be aware of the conflict. The problem
started immediately after I set up my new PC. As I already bought the AVG
licence for use on the old system, it was one of (if not the) first things I
installed. Any advice, apart from changing my anti virus? if that must happen
are there any which definitely do not conflict with Windows Mail?
Thanks again!

Remove and reinstall AVG using the Custom install option, offered part way
through the procedure, then deselect the mail scan option.
