Can't tell - you need to post the message (verbatim!) and tell us the exact
circumstances under which it pops up. Remember - we can't see your machine!

Hello Pegasus
Thank you for your response. The message is as follows: ' The system has
detected tampering with your registered product type. This is a violation of
your software license. Tampering with the product type is not permitted.'
Frankly I haven't got the knowledge to tamper with anything. This message
occurred while I was using my Anti-Virus Scan ( AVG Free Edition)

This is a new one to me. I don't believe the error message is coming from
AVG, but you can check on their forums to see if anyone else has
experienced this.

AVG Free Support Forum - http://freeforum.avg.com/

I'd do some really thorough scanning for malware. Also, do you have any
specially licensed programs installed? Examples would be industry-specific
niche programs. I haven't heard of one of these types of programs
complaining about an antivirus scan, but you never know.

Scanning in Safe Mode as recommended may take care of the error message.

This appears to be a Windows system message - see here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/332199. I suspect that something, perhaps
some malware or maybe a registry cleaner, has performed illegal
modifications on your machine. I would use System Restore to return the
machine to a date well before the problem became apparent. An on-line virus
scan would also be a good idea, e.g. from www.antivirus.com, then look for
"Free Tools", then "House Call".
