I am trying to set up a yahoo account and after adding the servers, etc, when
I sign on to windows mail, I get the following error message:

Account: 'Yahoo', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.ca', Protocol: POP3, Server
response: '-ERR popgate unknown command', Port 995, Secure (SSL): yes, Server
Error:0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Can anyone help?

I found some instructions, but you need the software for reading .pdf
files installed first:

I don't know about yahoo.ca, but in the US it takes a premium account
to connect using Windows Mail:

Thanks so much. I do have the yahoo account all set up so didn't need the
tutorial, it was just connecting it to the windows mail that was causing all
the grief. I went to yahoo Canada help, and I think it is the same, that I
need the premium account to be able to access it through Windows Vista mail.

Thanks for getting back so quickly, and thanks for the help! Merry Christmas!

You're welcome. Happy New Year!

If it was a premium versus non-premium account issue, the error message
would be different (failure to accept credentials).
In this case, the server is complaining about an unknown command.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select the Yahoo account, Properties, Servers,
uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

I don't know whether Canadian residents are entitled to POP access
for free Yahoo accounts.
