error message when accessing contro panel

I seem to be encountering error messages about 50% of the time when i try to
access my contro panel or recylce bin etc. Windows just decides to close. How
can I troubleshoot this.
 
Hi Rose,
I'm totally new to XP so take this with a grain of salt. I tried
opening add/remove twice last night and got an Error Reporting Message
that explorer.exe had a problem and did I want to send a report. I
didn't send a report, but I went into my firewall (ZA) and gave Windows
Explorer internet and trusted rights. I was then able to open
add/remove.

Hi Rose,
Did you ever find out how to correct this problem. This is happenin
more frequently and my work-around (resetting my firewall permissions
isn't working.
