I have Office Pro. 2000, Word 2002.

Whey I try to use Outlook and set Word as the e-mail editor, I get an error
message that keeps saying I have to have Outlook upgraded to the same version
as Word.

This is not correct. Microsoft can not force a person to upgrade by
disallowing an older version of Outlook which has a the lasted and greatest
from Microsoft update site. They are trying to say I must purchase a NEW
VERSION OF OFFICE...........

THIS IS UNFAIR TRADE AND AGAINST TORT LAWS....

ANY one else have this problem??

Sure would like to have a work around.

Thanks

Nobody is forcing you to upgrade Outlook...you just can't use Word as the
e-mail editor if you don't (and there are a few other interoperative
functions that you can't use if the versions aren't the same). There are
always going to be incompatibilities between programs of different versions,
whether or not they are all Microsoft programs.

That was after the sp2 and sp3

Everything Worked like it should have. Word 2002 was the e-mail editor for
Outlook 2000 ......

Why has Microsoft killed the use of Word 2002 as the e-mail editor for
Outlook?????

That would say to me that Microsoft does not really care about customer
support or customer help. Just out for the all might dollar. .....

Update and spend some more money on a product that is still full of bugs.
I would like to know if I can be paid as a bug tester????
You have given me a Buggy Software..........

Oh, yes by the way, I got my MCSE in 1996, when did you get yours?
To say the least, I know the ins and outs of Microsoft software.... And the
SP2 upgrade is nothing more that a Beta software, getting all the errors from
the end user, not testing first before release.

I would like to see this problem FIXED.

There is nothing wrong with Outlook 2000, and nothing wrong with Word 2002,
the two should work together, as STATED.

Now Microsoft is doing Vista..... They have not even fixed XP...

Oh, but that is fourceing the issue. I must upgrade to have Word 2002 work
with Outlook 2000, Which did work in the past, before the lasted update.......

That is pure force to upgrade. That is againt the TORT laws....READ them is
you do not know. Software Law states, that if you produce software, and
upgrade the software with products updates, then you have to supply full
support for that software until you delete the software from use. And at
that time you still have to give full support for that software for 1 year.

You have not taken Outlook 2000 out of the loop, nor Word 2002.

So, you are in catch 22. You have to allow the two to work together, and
nothing less . Anything less is a crime.....

As stated where? Oh, and one need not be an MCSE to know the "ins and outs"
of Microsoft products or any other products.

Oh, and another thing I should mention...when you say "you" in your posts to
me, you are preaching to the choir. MVPs are not employees of Microsoft. We
are just humble souls who spend our free time trying to help others with
Microsoft product issues. These newsgroups are purely volunteer-driven.

As stated where? Cite the Microsoft (or any) document stating that Word
2002 is supposed to work with Office 2000.

The only version of Outlook that worked with multiple versions of Word was
Outlook 2000 with either Word 2000 or Word 98/97

So, find yourself a lawyer that is willing to sue Microsoft on your behalf
and stop whining.

All 2002 version of the software are backward allowed. Allowed to read and
use older versions.
All 2000 version of the software are backward allowed. Allowed to read and
use older versions
All 2004 Works Suite version of the software are backward allowed. Allowed
to reand and use older versions.

I have been using Outlook 2000 since it came out, along with Word 2000, Word
2002, Works Suite 2004..... This is all allowed..... Never had a problem.

But now Microsoft has change the code to not allow this....

Never had a problem until the last update. Now it will not work. It is not
allowed now.

To me this another way for Microsoft to keep asking for more money, by
forceing the UPGrade. Not UpDate.

Microsoft has never done this before, but I guess there is always a first
time.

No you do not have to have a MCSE to know the ins and outs, but if you do,
then you will understand where I am comming from.

And for you, Go jump off a bridge, and Kill your self. We would be better
off. Any one that wimps in and And Brian Tillman who the hell do you think
you are?

You must not know anything about the software Laws....

If you had Word 2002 working as Outlook 2000's e-mail editor then you did so
via some unsupported hack or pure dumb luck. It was never intended or
promised to work that way.

I've been supporting Outlook since OL97 and I was using Outlook 2000 before
Microsoft publicly admitted it
existed. With all due respect I think I know a few things about it.
That is pure force to upgrade. That is againt the TORT laws....

Not in any jurisdiction I'm aware of, and I say that as somebody who has
been in the law business for most of the last 20 years.

By the way, before I forget, this is not legal advice and I am not your
attorney. This friendly exchange of ideas in no way constitutes an
attorney-client relationship. For legal advice please consult with an
attorney licensed to practice in your jurisdiction. said:

Even if that's true, it doesn't mean you have to make products do things
they were never designed to do and that you never promised they would do.
It simply means they have to support them. Which they do through their
designated support lifetimes.

I daresay that Microsoft has a lot more lawyers advising them than you do.
But good luck with your lawsuit.

Brian Tillman, of course.
You must not know anything about the software Laws....

And if you're so sure of yourself, prove it with a lawsuit and stop your
bellyaching.

Never had a problem.

Now you're throwing Works into the mix. You are something. Yes Works will
work with Word 2002, but Outlook 2000 is not part of works and it won't.
Those are the facts. You're living in a dream is you don't accept reality.
Microsoft has never done this before, but I guess there is always a
first time.

Microsoft has a long history of requiring integrated products to all be the
same version.
