Error Message - Missing or corrupt pci.sys

I am getting this message upon bootup. I loaded a pdfmaker program yesterday
and ever since the machine has been dead. I have tried loading the last
known good config and booting to safe mode and nothing. The message
indicates that I can insert my XP Home disk and select repair. Will I lose
my data running a repair? Does the setup go through the whole process again?
Any help would be appreciated.
 
it only repairs the windows operationg system, it doesn't delete your files.
