error message for www addresses

Vista will open programs on the hard drive with no intervention but when I
want some address on the web there is an error message that comes up in a
long narrow box telling me that I have misspelled the address.

Not so, but Vista will not quit doing this. It also makes a "gong" noise
when I ask for the www address. How can I cure this?

I solved another one like this by taking the company front end off. Well,
almost off, I still cannot go straight to C:\ in windows explorer, which is
the way I want it to open--- like in XP
