Upon booting a dialogue box with the title
"c:\windows\system32\dllcache\sc.exe" pops up. It is rectangular and
shows a black background with white text. I don't know what it is,
athough someone told me its spyware. Anyhow, I'd like to make it stop
popping up.

In reviewing messages in this group on this subject I saw that
Microsoft says to go to the registry and look for extraneous
characters that should be there. I did that, but to no avail. I found
a line for my SpySweeper application. It had quotation marks at the
beginning and end, which I removed. The problem did not go away.

I have run Ad-Aware SE Personal, Spybot Search & Destroy, AVG, and
SpySweeper. And these applications have found and fixed, deleted,
healed, and removed 75 viruses, 600 and something new Critical
Objects, and lots of spyware, but something continues to hijack or
makes repeated attempts to hijack ny Internet Explorer. SpySweeper is
constantly popping up and telling me an attempt is being made to
change my web browser, and asking me if I want to Restore the
original(www.refdesk is my home page) or keep the new one. I keep
hitting Restore, but SpySweeper pops up every few minutes and tells me
the same thing each time. It's almost as annoying as the hijackers.
Whatever it is it may be what is responsible for installing unwanted
shortcuts on my desktop with names like Travel, Internet, Poker,
Bingo, Card Games, Casino Online, and Printer Cartridges

Can anyone help?
