In previous attempts to load Windows XP Professional
Upgrade, I was unable to get Windows to recognize the 2
SATA drives (WD360GD) I installed on an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
motherboard with an ATI Radeon 9800 graphics card. I
managed to get to the point where Setup prompted me for a
previous version of Windows (98), and where I could
partition the hard drive (WD1800JB), but cancelled the
setup because I wanted XP to run from the SATA drives.
The partitioning however has remained as BIOS now only
sees 65GB on a 180GB drive. I also managed to update the
BIOS with a bootable floppy which worked. So to simplify
things, I disconnected the 2 SATA drives as well as the
DVD-ROM, leaving only the hard drive, the CD-ROM/RW and
the floppy. Now when I try to reboot using the Windows XP
CD, I get the error message: Error Loading Operating
System. I've reset CMOS several times, but to no avail.
All connections have been checked & rechecked - all
jumpers are set to Cable Select. Closer inspection of the
XP CD reveals "Academic Edition" which is not what I
ordered, but I don't know if this will have any impact on
the install (I can find no information on Academic
Editions on the Microsoft website). Can anyone help me
with this?
