error codes

I have recently started getting the error messages below when sending mail
from outlook:

'Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for
a response from the sending (SMTP) server.......'

Followed by

'Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for
a response from the sending (SMTP) server.....'

I had not altered any of my settings. After several messages like this I
have confirmed with my ISP that the settings I am using are correct. I have
tried RFT, Plain and word as editors but it makes no difference. Have tried
'detect and repair' as well as a reinstall.

Has anyone had similar experiences and what was the resolution as my ISP is
not much help

If you have an AV tool scanning outgoing messages, disable that feature.
Also make sure your send/receive interval and server timeout values are set
appropriately high.

With the AV off this made no difference
