I have a new motherboard, but suddenly am having an
insistant musical alarm that sounds like a British police
car alarm. Shutting down is the only solution so far.
Sound familiar to anyone?

Does the machine boot up to windows or does the police siren begin as soon
as you switch on the machine? If the 'siren' comes on when you switch on
your machine and nothing else happens, i.e., you get no bios messages,
memory check etc and you cannot boot into windows it sounds like the bios is
corrupt or damaged. If this is the case the motherboard needs to be returned
and replaced by the supplier. I had a similar problem a few years ago and
the bios was the problem. As soon as the motherboard was replaced i had no
further trouble.

Sounds to me like a Processor Overheating Alarm is

going off. But then alarms can be triggered by a number

of different preset events.

Have you tried reading the "new motherboard"

manual? Or, if you installed (or already had installed)

any motherboard monitoring software have you tried

reading the help for the software?

Note that if you did not get a manual or documentation

you can most likely find it online.

You could also try googling for the name of your

motherboard manufacturer, heat, motherboard, and alarm.

For example:

The first hit of the above search returns the following

article that may be helpful. Note that even though it

is published by Dell, it is not specific to Dell computers.
