Hi All
I am trying to delete Norton Go Back and when I do I get this error Message
"Error 25032 Windows has configured drive C: for MS Dos compatibility mode
this is preventing Norton Go Back from uninstalling disable Norton Go Back
from the Norton Go Back boot menu then try again"
I have tried to find out about it but am having no luck.

24 hours later and I'm in the same boat as Ken.

I've used GoBack since 1999 without a problem. Currently I'm on v4. But
today my PC crashed during shutdown. It locked up and I had to pull the
plug. After that, GoBack returns error codes when the system boots and
(basically) GoBack doesn't work anymore but it's still there in the system,
nagging me to re-enable it etc.

I cannot uninstall it, I get the same error as Ken "Error 25032 Windows has
configured drive C: for MS Dos compatibility mode this is preventing Norton
Go Back from uninstalling disable Norton Go Back from the Norton Go Back
boot menu then try again". This is not true though, my PC is NOT in MS-DOS
mode. GoBack is alrerady "disabled" in its boot menu (though it isn't really
disabled), it just refuses to go away or repair or reinstall or... or
anything except nag me to enable it and then refuse to do so when I try!

I've searched the 'net and the newsgroups. We're not alone and it's not a
new problem. But nobody ever seems to come up with a solution.

Unless.... ????

OK, I got this sorted (for me at least).

After trying lots of ideas from around the net I "stumbled" on one more, and
it was the solution that worked for me. If you want to try it...

You need to go to the following (long) URL
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...d=Norton+GoBack&ver=4.0&osv=&osv_lvl=&seg=hho

This is the Symantic KB page called "Cannot start Windows after installing
GoBack" (which actually was NOT my problem and if it were I couldn't have
done what follows but)...

On this page you get instruction to create a bootable floppy. People have
tried this with little success. However it also gives instructions on
"Creating a bootable CD while troubleshooting a GoBack problem - URL
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...d=Norton+GoBack&ver=4.0&osv=&osv_lvl=&seg=hho

Download the .iso file on this page. Burn it to a CD and make your PC boot
from the CD. The CD presents you with options to "Unhook GoBack" or "Repair
MBR (Master Boot Record)". I went for "Unhook", seconds later I was booting
into Windows and was then able to uninstall GoBack. All that was left was
the huge .bin file it creates to store its history. This is a hidden file
BTW.

For my sins I have now reinstalled GoBack 4 and it is working fine. I have
no qualms about this as GoBack has worked for me well for 7 years. I have
kept the bootable CD "just in a case".

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Peter Thirl!
I have been looking all over (including the Symantec web site)for the
solution to removing GoBack after not uninstalling it before putting in
a new C drive and ghosting the image back. Symantec should make the
page you mentioned easier to find. Thanks to your solution, GoBack is
now successfully unstalled. Like you, I will probably reinstall it.
It has saved me many times. I'm just very relieved to have this problem
solved! Thanks again!!!
