Hello!
If you have multiple versions of Word installed on your
computer, when you start Word 2002, the Windows Installer
may run and display a message that it is preparing to install.
Reinstall office.

Judy:

Put your Office CD disk in per the prompt. It should copy one file to your
hard disk, and not prompt you again.

Run the edit on line 171. It will place the needed user data entry in
the
registry to correct this behavior.

I will try that on some domain user wss that have the problem.

Kelly:

Your .reg file did not work:
I even compared the registry entries with the lines in your .reg file.

What did work:
Make the limited user an Admin gp member
Open Word, respond do the installer prompt
Remove Admin gp membership from the limited user acct
No more install prompt

Problem scenario:
Win XP Pro, SP1
Standalone computer (no domain involved)
Office 2000 SP3
Admin gp member did initial install of Office, SP1a, SP3

Create a limited user acct
Reboot, logon as that user
Open Word
Error 1706 dialog displays
