Could not access Network Location "::\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Desktop". Upgraded Windows ME to
Windows XP. Had to uninstall and reinstall NIS 2004.
Got Error 1606 while reinstalling. Have tried to the
admin tools add to registry but that doesn't help.
Really want to reinstall NIS 2004 and haven't found
anything to help me out. Any ideas ?

Adding Admin tools to the Registry won't help you here, but you're close. The folder it can't find is the Desktop folder. Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

Look in the right pane for the value Common Desktop. It typically points to:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

If not, double click the Common Desktop value and change it. This assumes that your XP installation is on C:

I am currently experiencing the exact same problem. I
have contacted Symantec but have had no success with
their suggestions on troubleshooting.

I have the exact same problem. I checked the entry that
you suggested and it is OK.

I did what you suggested but no luck. One thing I didn't
mention was during the uninstall I saved my setting. I
am wondering if something in the saved settings is
causing my problem.

Forget my previous statements about saving my settings, I
removed everything to the point where I had to enter in
the product key for NIS2004. This is very
frustrating !!! Arg.....

Jo,

Can you right click on the Shell Folders subkey and select Export ? Then open the REG file you just created in Notepad and paste the contents here?
