Error 0xA800138F

Getting error 0xA800138F when I click on scan for updates
in MS update window. This error happens everytime. I have
installed XP 3 times.

I had the same problem. If you are running adfree or
some other such programs that blocks adds you could be
blocking the Microsoft update site. I was running
adfree and if I disable it. I can perform updates.
Microsoft started using akamai to support their downloads
because of the high volume of traffic due to blaster
worm. This is one of the sites blocked by adfree. If
you are running adfree you can go to C:\window\system32
\drivers\etc and delete the hosts file. You can then
run update. When you reboot the hosts file will come
back.

The better approach is exit out of addfree or similar
software before you run update.

This was my experience.
