Jamie

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to fix this
problem. Quite frequently, usually in IE, my mouse locks
up and moves on its own. If I move it left, it goes right
or in circles. I have to turn the computer off every time
it does this. I was told it might have to do with the
video card?

Yes, several different ones. The odd thing is that
sometimes I can be on the internet for 10 minutes, and
sometimes for less than a minute before it locks up.

You R being "jacked" with.

Let me guess, you are on some chats, IM, ICQ, IRC, or something else. It's either
that, or you don't have adequate AVP, firewall, Privacyware, antiSpyware, etc. Maybe
I'm being hasty, but 9 out of 10 that come in here with problems like yours are
completely oblivious to how computers should be used and what is required to keep
one running. Sorry, if I'm all wet, if you can answer the following questions
affirmatively.

Is your computer fully backed up, and does it have an up to date ERD?

Do you practice safe hex?

Do you have a firewall (hardware or/and software), anti-popup software, Privacyware,
and ant-malware and use it correctly?

Do you have two Administrator accounts with genuine complex passwords with a
rotation at least once per quarter?

Do you use separated accounts for multiple users on a pc?

Do you have a guest account setup, where a friend can use your computer, without
screwing it up?

Do you run antivirus scans at least once every time you use your computer or at
least once a day?

Do you never open attachments, unless you know the person, and contact them first to
see whether they sent the attachment. The safest routing being that one email is
sent out before the one with the attachment.

Do you get new definitions at least twice a week?

Do you update your drivers at least once a month?

Do you check for flash upgrades for your BIOS at least once per 90 days?

Do you have a routine of changing complex passwords at least every month (preferably
twice)?

Do you know the fundamentals of how"not" to get a virus, worm, back orifice, Trojan
horse, script virus, Java based virus, and about 20 other types of maladies?

Do you use plain text for all emails unless you know that other person and know for
sure that they really sent what you are receiving?

Now, if you have honestly answered all of these affirmatively, I can help you fix
your problem. Let me know; I'm here.

First thing to do is go to http://securityresponse.symantec.com/ and run a complete
virus and security scan. After the virus scan print or write down your infections.
Go to Google and run a search with the virus name, and/or infected files. Print the
Symantec fix "page", and start by doing everything it says to do in the exact order,
or your infections will cause you to wipe your HDD, and reload your OS and all else.
It's about a two day job for a novice knowledgeable person. If you aren't
knowledgeable, a trip to the shop and $100 to reload your OS only, and update your
drivers. you'll still spend the better part of a day getting back to where you
"think" you were, but for another week you'll discover a ton of "Oh, forgot about
that's".

Don,

Obviously I am not a computer "geek" like you are. I came
to this site to possibly get help from someone who knows
more about computers than I do, not to be put down for my
obvious "stupidity" where computers are concerned. My
virus definitions are up-to-date and that is about all I
can tell you. If I knew all of the things you just asked
me, I could fix the problem myself!! I will find someone
else to help me with my problem since you obviously don't
think I should even be on a computer at all!!!!!!!
