erratic mouse/programs randomly opening

I have been unable to fix a problem I have been having.
Has anyone experienced programs randomly opening while
working in an already open program. I lose control of the
mouse and it starts opening other programs and kicks me
out or freezes the application I am in...Can anyone help???

Does it stop if you lift (carefully) the mouse off the pad? If so, there is
something (intermittently) wrong with the connections inside the mouse or
the cable. Just buy another mouse.
