Everyone who installs this unit under XP will have the same issue. The
native driver for this model provides basic functionality, just enough to
perform basic printing tasks. The status monitor was never part of the
driver anyway, but a separate download.
I recommend that you purchase an XP-compatible printer (something from Canon
would be an excellent choice) and donate that one to a local school (I have
done this with several of my old, but still functioning, machines - 5 year
olds don't tend to care what their work looks like - they're just fascinated
by the idea of their work coming out of the printer!)
