epson driver wont pass logo test

my new computer has windows xp. The driver that came with
my printer (epson875dc photo) didn't work so I downloaded
the windows 2000/xp driver from epson. I unzipped it into
a folder called epson. When I tried to add the hardware
it says the driver won't pass the logo test.
I called epson, and they said 100086 was the proper
driver, and that the trounle lay elsewhere. Any ideas?

What exactly happened with the original driver?
Did it install? If not, what error did you get?
If installed? Can you print with it? IF not what happened?
