Epson 1200 & Epson Status Monitor

Has anybody been able to get the Epson Status Monitor (to show the level of
ink) to work with XP professional and the Epson 1200 drivers (USB or LPT1
port)?
If yes, how?

There is a status monitor available for download
(http://www.epson.co.uk/cgi-bin/searchdrivers_eul.cgi) but be aware it's for
2000 (there isn't an XP driver or SM for the 1200). Though, in my experience
with the 900 (which uses the same SM) it doesn't work. I'm afraid you may
have to do without.
