I have had it with this PC and am ready to just wipe............MY problem...how do I wipe XP. I need step by step instructions for removing XP and then reinstalling. Does anyone know where I can find these instructions?

I would suggest backing up your important documents and files,
then perform a "clean install" as follows:

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

9. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:

Before you re-install XP make sure you turn off any anti-virus programs,
they can cause conflicts with the install.
Insert the operating system disk and go from there. It will give you all
the choices you want....including formatting the disk. I'm not real good
with this, but that's a start. Hope it helps!

I dont know if this makes a difference with respects to uninstalling XP but when I purchased my PC it already had XP installed. I got an "operating system recovery CD" and my activation number is on the side of my tower. Can someone please help me...............please pretty please with sugar on to

You could look in Help and Support, if your system is running and usable.
You could do a Google search for "formatting and installing Windows XP".
You could search the Windows XP website. If your system is not working and
you can't get on the web with it, use a friends. The format and install
process is actually quite painless. After getting to your BIOS and setting
the CD drive as the first boot drive, stick the XP install cd in and reboot.
The install starts automatically, giving you the option to format the drive,
create partitions and then install XP.

Thank-you BOTH so much for your words of wisdom........I am printing out everything I need right now.....and trying to calm down before I screw this up too :-))
Wish me luck and thanx a bunch

Hello Sherr
Well the way I would do it is, get to the A:\ prompt, Fdisk your hard drive, when that is done I would format the drive and you should be able to install the software from there
If you are not happy this way, Go to the Microsoft home site. Click in the search box, and type How to uninstall windows xp, this should take you to the correct site. I hope this helps you
