Entering Dates

  • Thread starter Thread starter Duffo
  • Start date Start date
You can format the cell Duffo

Select the cell and do Ctrl-1
On the number tab choose date and
choose the one you like(or make your own one)

I do that; I choose mm/dd and when I imput that's what I
get, but, the year still shows up in the formula bar;
3/14/2003 for example. It's ok in the cell but not in the
formula bar. Maybe the quesation is: does the formula bar
make any difference?

You can't have a date without a year in Excel. You can choose not to
display the year, but there must always be a year in the actual date value.

AHA!!

That makes it a little difficult as I am using another
cell for the year. But, Thank you.

Do you realize that you could eliminate entering the date in your "year"
column by just linking it to the first cell and formatting it to just
display the year (assuming you don't want to change the set-up of your
sheet).
