Hi,

For some reason when Outlook is sending/checking for new
messages it comes up 'Enter Network Password' this
problem does not happen all the time only about 60% and
this still happens even though I checked the box to save
my password.

Do you know why this is happening?

Also have you got any idea why I receive approx 6 e-mails
a day supposidly from Microsft telling me to update a
patch etc? I just delete them as soon as I get them
becuase Ive heard they are viruses.

The e-mails are approx 120kb and have the same layout as
your website. I have PC-Cillin but it does not support
Pop 3 accounts for Yahoo mail, do you know how I can get
around this?

Many Thanks

Gavin Deadman

For problem one:
If you are still having problems after applying both the SP 1 & 2 patches,
then see if this article addresses your problemL

OL2002: The Save Password Setting Is Not Saved When You Connect to a POP3
Server
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290684

For the alleged mail from Microsoft - they NEVER send .exe files by mail but
rather send you a link to an online article about the fix and a pointer to
the download. Also, they use a digital signature on security announcements.
They are bogus - just delete them.

Due to the Swen virus, all e-mails sent to this account will be deleted
w/out reading.

Gavin,

I believe Milly is right on the mark. I had this very problem (Enter Network Password) when I bought a new laptop with XP Pro pre-installed. I recently installed Service Pack 1, Service Pack 2, and 2 fixes (Outlook 2002 Updates from December 4, 2002 and January 22, 2003) and I no longer get the tiresome box asking me to "Enter Network Password".

Can't say I've ever seen anything like the e-mail you describe.

I'm not sure if I'm having the same problem since I can't
find the orignal message, however, while Outlook 2002 is
running, the "Enter Network Password" window keeps popping
up. It doesn't pop up when I open the program though. It
only pops up after the first time it sends/recieves email.

Thanks,
Jim

I have already downloaded and installed the latest updates.

Jim,

You mentioned that you had already downloaded and installed the latest updates. I'm wondering if you installed the XP service packs & fixes or the Office 2002 service packs & fixes? I was very up-to-date on XP, but only recently installed the Office 2002 service packs (1 & 2) and on top of that the two fixes I mentioned earlier. It was the Office 2002 service packs & fixes that corrected the problem for me; not the XP maintenance.
