Hi =?Utf-8?B?YWxhcA==?=,
How can I install an english langage dictionnary on my office 97 french
version ? I do have the option of french or english in my tool bar at the

document it still seems to check as if using a french dictionnary
English is part of the Word 97 product, no matter which local language
version it is. But it's not necessarily installed automatically. You can
make sure it's installed by going over START/Control Panel/Add-Remove
programs. Select Office 97 and choose to "change" the installation.

Set-up should run and ask whether you want to remove or change the installed
components. You want to change the installed components. You need to go into
the "customization" part of setup, where you can navigate through the "tree"
of components. The Proofing Tools are under one of the "office" categories.
Make sure the options for English are activated, then OK until Setup
finishes. If the English tools aren't installed, you'll certainly need your
original CD.

In order to format text for a particular language, you need to select the
text in the Word document, then apply the language via Tools/Language/Set
language. (Just as you'd format text bold or italic.)

I just followed your instructions and this has created a major problem. I
cannot access any of my numerous files (4 years down of work continuous)
anymore. I am asked to insert my microsoft disk in order to continue, and
the message says that it cannot access any of my files. This is major panic .
Please help. I am very scared that if I insert my disc, all my files will be
erased, as I have not copied them .
Thank you for quick reply.

First of all, don't panic. You are not going to lose the data files because
Word is having a wobble - however, you should take this as a warning to
backup those documents now. Four years worth of work is a lot to lose.

First of all checkout http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm
Next with Word still closed go to Control Panel again and with the
Word/Office disc in the drive re-run Word setup and choose the option to
repair the installation. Let the operation complete before attempting to
restart Word (with the disc still in the drive).

Thank you for replying.
However, I was so upset yesterday that I called microsoft and was an easily
convinced new client for Office 03, which I downloaded yesterday (trial
version) until I have a chance to go and buy it on CD-ROM... As all of my
files, not only Word, but also Excel, were no longer accessible, because my
Microsoft 97 disc was no longer accepted by my DVD reader.
But I take note of your procedure in case one of my software crashes in the
future.
Thank you again
