Endnote and Word 2003

Has anyone ever had a problem using Wrd where Endnote suddenly decides
to include
field codes in the document? I've had this happen a couple of times
when I open a document I'd been working on. At the same time, my
figures (placed as Objects from PowerPoint) disappear, and in their
place it says "Embedded object." Also, my page numbers disappear,
instead {PAGE} appears at the bottom. I've figured out how to fix all
these problems, but it's just annoying, and I'm afraid there is
something else wrong that is suddenly going to make my whole system
crash. I'm working on Windows XP Pro, Office 2003, Endnote 6.
