Encypted file in XP pro

Hello i have some encypted files in XP and i have recently
formatted my PC. So now when i try and remove the
encyption is says 'access denied'

Any ideas?

Yes. Read the Help & Support files on Encryption BEFORE you encrypt
anything. If you had, You would know that you should have create a
Recovery Agent disk in case something like this happened.

EFS is doing its job. Keeping un-authorized users from accessing your
files. Since you no longer have a valid key, you are not an authorized
users. If EFS were easy to crack. It would be worthless.

Hi,

Yes you need to be logged on as an administator and select
the file and take ownership, then remove the old sid.
 
That won't work. Torgeir's suggestion will work if the original user
profile still exists. If the drive was formatted and clean-installed, the
data is lost.
