XP Pro NTFS FILE SYS

I encryped a folder and all contents. No problems until I
reloaded my OS. Now my certificates do not macth and I can
not open the files. No copy, no view, no nothing. The
files are still there, but they are dead in the water. I
have taken ownership of them and given myself every
permission in the book with negitive results.

Does anyone have a solution here. Losing the files is not
an option! Why you ask? Because like all good users, I
never backed them up while in the unencryped state. Any
ideas?

Aaron;
If the files are encrypted.
If you did not back-up the encryption key or the Recovery Agent and
are not on a domain, the files are as good as gone.
This must be accomplished while you have access to the files.
If you have not already done so, it is now to late.

If you can restore the original profile (not recreate) and know the
password, you may be able to recover the data.
Recreating profiles and passwords is irrelevant.
Contact Microsoft if you can restore the profile.

EFS is very good at what it does and there is no back door.
Read and understand these links before using EFS to keep from
permanently losing your data:

Wow David you are very insightful.

I am not sure what I would have done without your help.
Then again it appears reading is not your strong point. I
was looking for input from someone that actually had some
education in the subject. Had the encryption not been
transparent, there might have been more to follow up on. A
clue that the keys were being used each time might have
done it. I can tell you it will not happen again.

David, if I was looking from smart comments I would have
went to YAHOO chat. Your talent is wasting away in this
forum.

Thanks to the others that actually gave good info! There
is hope.

Apparently you're not very insightful, Genius. Else you would have know that you
needed to create a recovery agent and stored it off the computer in case something
happend to your account. such as, Gee, I don't, REFORMATTING!!!

And yours is??? Then why didn't you read the "Help and Support" on Encrption
before you used it????

I have plenty of eductaction on the subject because, One - I read the "Help and
Support" file, and two - All of the idiots just like you that didn't yet went ahead
and encrypted their precious files

Had the encryption not been
transparent, there might have been more to follow up on. A
clue that the keys were being used each time might have
done it. I can tell you it will not happen again.

umm, That clue would be in the Help file.

Then you shouldn't do Dumbass things.
