Encryption rewrites file dates

The encryption feature in XP is a valuable security
tool. However, when I run encryption, it resets
the "Date Modified" field of all of my files. This is
extremely annoying, yet I've never seen anyone else
complain about this. Am I doing something wrong, or do
people just accept this?

The file is being modified (scrambled) by the encryption
process, so the Date Modified is updated.

CM.

Encrypting or Decrypting a file is a "Write" function, being such the last
date modified will be updated - the file contents is being updated.

There are others that have mentioned that this does
frustrate their accustomed practices.
However, this is how it is.

If you copy/move them into an encrypted directory they'll keep their old
modify timestamps.
