I am trying to encrypt some folders and files using the standard XP
functionality. When right click on a file or folder, choose Properties then
Advanced, the option to Encrypt is greyed out.

My hard drive is formated using NTFS and I am not trying this on compressed
files. Is there something I have to turn on to allow compression?

If you are using Windows XP Home Edition,
file encryption is not available as it is in Windows
XP Professional.
