Encrypted Files

I recently installed Win XP Pro on a box that used to have Win 2000 Advanced
Server on it so that I could use it as a powerful desktop. Anyway, there
are encrypted files on the secondary hard drive that I was unaware of and
now, since I installed XP, I am unable to decrypt them. Is there any steps
I can take to recover these files?

Hi,

A question better asked of the security groups, however if the encryption
certificates were not carried over (meaning an upgrade vs. a clean install),
then you will need to use a backup from the original system. Without them,
recovery is not possible.

If you didn't back up the keys before blowing away the previous OS the
files are gone forever. EFS is very good at what it does, and there are no
back doors.
