Enabling Port 25

I am unable to sent SMTP mail using Outlook Express or Outlook 2000 on a
Windows XP home machine.

These accounts work on other machines. Have run netstat and Port 25 appears
to be disabled on this system. I have an external firewall (Linksys) which
has the necessary ports open and I have disabled the built-in firewall and
would prefer not to use it if at all possible.

Is there a way to enable port 25 without using the built-in XP home firewall?

To send email you DON'T enable TCP port 25 on the sending platform. TCP Port 25 is enabled
on the Email Server which loads a SMTP Daemon/Service that opens TCP port 25 for email
clients to connect to.

In addition to what David replied, some ISPs block port 25 which means
if that is the case with yours, there is nothing you can do about it.
Inquire of your ISP to see if they are blocking port 25 first......

You've gotten good advice from both David Lipman and CS. I just wanted
to add that usually when someone is having problems sending email, the
reasons are one or a combination of:

a. Wrong user name
b. Wrong password
c. Your ISP does/doesn't require authentication for the SMTP server and
you've got it set wrongly.
