In working Ameritrade stock account, trying to access certain features, I'm told 'java' is not enabled. Can U tell me how to go about that?

First have a look at this link

How to Troubleshoot Java Problems in Internet Explorer

If you need to install java consider these links
http://www.virtualmachine.tk/
Note: Versions 5.00.3809 & 5.00.3810 are Security Fixes for version 5.00.3805.
Download and Install version 5.00.3805 (full version) first before installing
the upgrade(s).

Sun version:

Greetings --

As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing
settlement, Microsoft was not allowed to provide its own Java Virtual
Machine to Windows XP users. You can get almost the same
functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. If you want the broader
capabilities of Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, it is still
available from a lot of 3rd-party web sites, some of which are listed
here: http://www.java-virtual-machine.net/download.html.

If you do choose the Microsoft JVM, be sure to visit Windows
Update to apply a needed security patch.

Actually, less than a month ago, MS settled with Sun Sytems for 2 billion dollars for their (10 year) use (and though not admitted in the settlement) copyright infringement on Sun's creation, that MS used as MS JVM. Sun now (the date is pending) will allow MS to use JVM under its aupices and under the MS name to use Java. This will allow a better arragement with the use of Jave in IE.
