I am new to the OS XPP. I purchased a computer with XPP installed and when I
try to fax, I am instructed to "Insert the comnpact Disc Labeled Windows XP
Professional Service Pack 2 CD into your CD-Rom drive "D" and click OK"

Well, I purchase the computer out of town at a Liquidation Centre and I
never received any discs at all. I phone the establishment and they told me
to bring the computer back and they would install the proper drivers needed.

I have register the computer with Microsoft on-line and I am worried about
taking it back for them to install anything. I would like to do it myself.
Any advise or suggestions. Oh, I called microsoft for support and do not
wish to pay for a simply answer. Am I able to download the needed drivers
on-line?

Thank you for your time and knowledge. RBB

Contact the manufacturer of your PC for support assistance.
Microsoft does not replace lost or missing OEM software.

You need to install a FAX program from Windows OS CD if you haven't done
so. This should be under "Install Optional Windows
Components" and you need to select FAX Services.

Carey, thanks for the reply. Yes, I am of the understanding that it is an
OEM version and what you say is exactly what Microsoft stated on the
telephone recording when i phoned them seeking and answer. As I said, I
purchased the computer "Just the tower" from a Computer Liquidation business
which is lcoated approximately 70 miles away. I have previously contacted
them and was informed that I had to bring the tower to them and they would
load the proper files/drivers on it for me.
I was hoping to learn, whether I could to do it myself "Load the proper
files/drivers" or must I just do wth-out the fax until I am able to return to
the place of purchase so they can insert the requested CD. I have registerd
with Microsoft, up-dated the a number of files on the computer"Sercurity &
Windows Media 10 now"
I am afraid that, if I let them install older files now, that it might mess
up the operation of my un-dated computer.
Thanks again for your patients and understanding knowing that I am new to
this OS

Carey, As I have stated, I am new to this OS but ... my computer does have a
sticker on it, from Microsoft. stating Windows XP Professional 1 - 2CPU OEM
Product and under that states Product Key: with 25 alpha/numerical indicators.
I do not wish to post the Key. The place of business where I purchased the
computer iformed me that I cannot have the CD but that they would install the
needed/reguest files. I was hoping to save myself the long trip and learn
how to do it myself. Thanks agian for your time, knowledge and patients.

I'd tell them if they cannot provide the CD, you will report them to
Microsoft and that you want your money back. Then go buy a computer from
a place that will give you a CD.
