I need to enable XP Pro's built-in firewalling on a fileserver but in doing so the shared folders can no longer be accessed. Which service or setting do I need to add/enable to be able to still access shared folders?

thanx!

You can enable XP's firewall and leave the correct ports open for
file/printer sharing. However, I highly recommend using a hardware
firewall/router instead.

aah thanx! very informative.

We do have a dedicated firewall but wanted to shield the fileserver against attacks from within the LAN. We had an incident where the fileserver flatlined the network which I can only suspect was due to some virus or hardware abnormality. Turning on the firewall option instantly solved the problem.
