Enable Document Protection

In some of my documents the option to protect the document is grayed-out
(disabled). Does anyone know why this would be, or how to enable that option
again? Thanx.
 
More than likely the document is considered a main document for mail merge.
Make sure Document Type is set to "Normal Word Document".

Word you are using.
