I've updated 0.47a.
I've selected about 700 files to download.
I've played around with the settings using people's various advices and
the wizard.
As soon as I open emule, it starts to slow down everything else, using
50-70% CPU.
Do I need to reinstall it?
If so, would I keep the current partial files and the files waiting in
qeue?

reduced them down to under 300, still having the same problem, any
other suggestions?

that's what i was thinking. stopping half of them did not help.

Stop most of them. The more you tell a program to do the more cpu
time it's going to use if it's written that way.

I did not say stop half of them

Your list must be smaller half of what you have, and most of those should be
stopped!

yeah, i did get you. i actually tried by stopping those before having
posted here. just was rambling on about what else i had tried earlier.

i only got 200 files left in the list, but no change yet. what else do
you suggest could be the matter?

Okay, the problem solved itself. After my last post, I logged on to
emule and all my transferring files were gone. Emule had shut itself
down a few times during my erasing about 500 files. Somehow, it just
killed all my searches. All 'part.' files in the 'temp' folder are gone
as well. Started 40 searches and emule is running along with other
programs. Only about 1-10% CPU used now. Thanks.

Advice:

If you use XP or windows 2000 with NTFS, enable the "create new part files
as SPARSE FILES" in the "Options> Extended" settings.

this will create small files and grow as you download.

Also if you use programs like sweepi to clean your disk beware of what I say
on this page

http://www.computerboom.com/security

since sweepi sees the temporaray files of emule as trash and wants to delete
them.
