Emptying of Recycle Bin sound

In previous Window versions I had a particular sound file
that would play when I emptied the Recycle Bin.

For some reason in XP I can NOT get the sound to "stick".
As soon as I set it, I test the sound, click on apply,
close out Control Panel and then I re-open Control
Panel\Sound\Sound Events and it is no longer set.

I've tried several times and simply can not get it to work.

I finally deleted WindowsXP default sound and renamed my
file, but that did not work either.

Also, in the past several weeks, I find that I am
continually having to reset the "view" in the Control Panel
to the icon view. When I open it, it is set for the detail
view. AND, the status bar is always gone when I open CP
which means I have to re-check that option also.

I have the folder options set for -show each folder in its
own view or whatever.

Any help will be appreciated.

When you change a system sound, you must save the entire
scheme. Make your changes and then click the "Save As"
box - type in a name for your scheme. Then make sure that
the newly created scheme is selected.

The folder view is a known issue with Windows XP. By
default it will only remember 400 individual windows. What
happens is when you reach 400, it starts saving new Windows
within that space and older Windows in the list get overwritten.
The new Tweak-UI for Windows XP has the ability to raise
that limit (Max = 8192, I believe). Tweak-UI is a graphical
tool that essentially writes the necessary changes to the
Registry.

Please overlook this if it's a stupid question, but did you copy the wave file
you want to use into Windows\Media so it appears as a choice without your having
to browse? I always use my own sounds instead of Windows defaults and copy them
all into the Media folder first off. My toilet flush sound for emptying the
Recycle Bin holds with no problem.

Larc,

Yes, I had already moved the file into Windows/Media
folder. Didn't help either. I've run out of things to try.

Kelly,

What do I do after I check your suggested key? It will
probably have nothing there if after I set it in the Sound
Events, close out Control Panel and re-open CP. That's
what happens every time.
