emoticons in outlook 2003

How can I enable emoticons in outlook 2003? I do not know hom to do it.

Outlook doesn't have full emoticon support. there are a few minor features
such as a being converted to a smiley face. If you want Messenger style
emoticons then insert gif files.

what message format are you using?
I think you need Word as the editor with html as the message format. I
haven't tried it with other combinations.

Word and HTML or Rich Text does the trick indeed. If you need it for Plain
Text compose in HTML and convert the message to Plain Text before pressing
Send.
