PROBLEM REPORT

Powerpoint version now in use:
PowerPoint 2002 (Office XP), but problem also occurred with PowerPoint 2003
(Office 2003)

Version the file was created in or opened in since, if any:
We got the file from a customer and don't know which version it was created
in, we have opened it in PowerPoint 2002 and 2003

Windows version:
Windows XP, Service pack 2, also tried it on Windows 2000, Service pack 4

Other hardware involved (printer, etc): Brother HL 14

Description of problem:
The PowerPoint file contains embedded word tables. I have to change the text
in these
word tables. For this I double click on the table, change the text and click
outside the table to close and return to PowerPoint. The problem is: The
table expands and spills over the edges of the slide. I cannot resize
the table. We have changed the Office version from Office 2003 to Office XP,
but the problem is still there.

When I:
When I double click on the table, it opens and I can change the text. When I
click outside the
table to close it and return to the slide, the table closes, but does not
fit on the slide any more.

Here's what happens:
No error messages appear.

or
What doesn't happen, but should, is:
After I finish editing the embedded word table and click outside to close
and return to the
slide, the embedded word table does not fit on the slide any more. It
expands somehow and does not allow resizing.

Here's what I've already tried to solve the problem:
We have changed Office from 2003 to XP. We have tried the general problem
solving procedures from the PPTools website.

Thanks for the detail, Maka.

Different versions of PPT/Windows/Excel have similar problems.

I don't know whether this will work, but let's see if you can convert the
embedded file to a linked one.

On a COPY of your existing presentation:

Rightclick the table and see if you can find an option for Opening the link
rather than editing it in place. If it's available, that'll open the embedded
file in Word. From there, save to a new file.

Select the table in Word, then choose Edit, Copy.

Switch back to PPT, choose Edit, Paste Special, LINK (very important) and click
OK.

That will create a link to your original word doc. You'll still be able to
doubleclick it to edit the information. If you want to break the link later,
you can ungroup the table.

Just to let you know, I tried Steve's recommendations. I copied/pasted a
table from Word. When it came over to PPT 2003, there were some 'arrowheads'
at the end of the rows and the columns. After trying the copy > past special
link and then ungrouping the table, the presentation looked and printed
fine..no arrows! Worked perfectly! Thanks Steve
