emails opening

I need help with with my emails which ever unread message is awaiting when I
open my email account it auto opens. I would like to have a choice and have
tell it to open in order to be read.

Can anyone help?
 
In order to do that, you will have to disable the preview pane:
Go to View, Layout, uncheck "Show preview pane".
