Emails not received until moving to another folder

We have about 20 Outlook 2000 clients installed using Exchange.

They all work fine, except for one.

If messages are sent to this workstation, they are not received (or
notified) until another mailbox is selected.

Normally, we have our clients minimized and when mail arrives, we get
notification (as we have the option set that way).

On this machine, we can be looking at the inbox and it will show no messages
received (even though I sent one or more a couple of minutes before). If I
click on another mailbox (doesn't matter which one), all of a sudden I get a
message and there is the number of message received next to the inbox
symbol.

What would cause this?

Thanks,

Tom

Actually, I didn't know it was on.

Where would I check that?

Also, where do I make the exception?

Thanks,

Tom

If a firewall exception doesn't work, try making the registry changes in

Actually, turning off the Firewall did work

I am curious as to why that would work. Why would it get all the messages
by just clicking on another mailbox?

I would have thought if it were a firewall issue, it would would give me a
message or something. If it was just going to load all the messages anyway,
why not just get the messages automatically and inform the user as it is
supposed to do?

Thanks,

Tom

Ordinarily, notification of new messages is handled my the mail server via
UDP packets without Outlook having to ask. Switching to another folder
causes Outlook to go ask the mail server for an update. This is not done
via UDP.

So, are you saying that the reason I was not being notified about mail was
because the firewall was preventing UDP packets from getting through?

Yes.
