My work email address sent mail to an unknown user
i do not know or have this persons address in my account
how can this have happened

Could be any number of things, even someone using your e-mail address as the
username for the sender of the message even if the message isn't really being
sent from your account. Does the sent message appear in your Sent Items
folder? Are you running an updated antivirus/security program on your
computer? (No need to run it on e-mail specifically; just run it on the
computer itself.)

no its not in the sent account at all. the email address i have in work is
outlook express so can this be used outside the office perimeter. yes there
is antivirus

Most likely a spammer forging your email address. Quite common.

Could very well be. Plus, if you are allowing your anti-virus to scan
email, it could be causing it to be blank. That's one of the reasons why
many people recommend not to use the email scanner portion of the AV.

: even though the email had nothing in it
