email to categories

I have discontinued using 'distribution groups' in favor of 'categories'.
When I send out an email using actions|new message to contact, all the
addresses are dropped into the to: box. I would prefer to have them drop
into bcc. Any tweak to accomplish this?

Not with Outlook alone. Just highlight them all and drag them to the Bcc
field.
