their end. Can anyone help

That means that Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing server. Check the
server name in the account, and make sure that any firewalls you have allow
you to connect on the appropriate port (probably 25).

Is this a free Hotmail account? Microsoft has discontinued supporting
access to free Hotmail accounts using OE and OL.

Hi Brian

We have a free hotmail account which is working OK but we use Outlook to
send email with another email account and it is that that is not working. We
have been using it for over a year but yesterday it will not send emails but
will receive them

The three biggest causes (in my opinion) of not being able to send mail are
1) failure to authenticate to the outgoing server and 2) scanning outgoing
mail with an antivirus program or firewall or 3) a firewall blocking the
ports the mail program wishes to use.

Enable logging in Outlook and try to send a message. The post the contents
of the OPMLog.log file and perhaps someone will be able to figure out what's
wrong.

Hi Brian

Thanks for the info. Beleive it or not the emails started working again for
no apparent reason.

If they go again I will follow your instructions.

It is a mystery to me!
