We have two clinets, Windows XP Pro, all service packs and updates
applied, using Office 2003 with all packs etc. we have exchange 5.5
on a new server, all updates etc....AND.....

When an email is sent from one to the other it does not show up in the
inbox unless the receiver actually switches views, say to contacts and then
back again and hey presto its there. This is the same going either way.

There using Dell hardware, McAfee anti-virus, and not much else, so why
they should have to change views before seeing any new emails is beyond
me, any of the clever people have an idea?

Thanks
Alan

G'Day Alan,

We are going through a similar issue with a
'Tony Wellsby' in this NG.

Can you try, BEFORE switching to.. and ..back,
clicking in the InBox space to see if the message
is there, and can be 'selected' - i.e it is initially
'invisible'?

Let's know the result.
Meantime 'search' for Tony's thread.

I have tried this, even if i actually click the inbox icon
the new email does not show. It only appears when i
actually change windows.

Will search for his thread.

Thanks

The UDP packets from your Exchange server aren't making it to your
clients. Check your network setup.

A search at http://support.microsoft.com on "udp Exchange" for Outlook
2002 turned up:

OL2002: You Cannot Receive New E-mail Notifications in Environments That
Use the Network Address Translation
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=305572

That's just one possible cause. A firewall could also be the culprit,
or a bridge not passing UDP but passes TCP. The article above changes
the behavior of the Outlook client from triggering upon receipt of UDP
packets from the Exchange server to instead polling the Exchange server.
